In 2008 I was speaking with my son Jason who was looking for a special type of sports wheelchair so that he could get more
exercise and have a bit of fun at the same time. The problem, it seemed, was that he was having a great deal
of difficulty finding anything used, even online. He felt sure that there were people out there that had the
type of wheelchair he was looking for. He also felt that if there was a website covering the U.S. and Canada where people could post
their extra equipment for free to donate, sell or trade it, those with disabilities would put it to good use.
Made a lot of sense to me too. This would be a service that could benefit the entire community.
Well that is the need that got HandiExchange.com started and we estimate there are over a million pieces of good used equipment in storage across the U.S. and Canada that could be used by someone else. Now that HandiExchange is finally operational, we are in the process of getting word out across the U.S. and Canada to all those that either have excess equipment in storage they wish to list on the website, or that are in need of equipment at a cost far less than new. Now for a bit about the team behind HandiExchange.
